Auto selection of targeting

Auto selection of targeting is a tool that helps to improve the targeting efficiency of your campaigns.

The algorithm analyses similar advertising campaigns launched by other VK Ads users in similar mobile app and community categories and suggests using the most relevant settings for your campaign for gender, age and interests.

How to use the tool

Automatic selection of gender, age, and interest settings can be enabled either during the creation of a new campaign or for already created campaigns.

If automatic selection is enabled, the most appropriate gender, age, and interest settings will be selected for your campaign. The settings can be changed while the campaign is running so that you get the maximum number of targeted actions.

For new campaigns

1. Start creating a campaign. In the advert objects, select one of the options:

  • Mobile app → target action - Install the app (instruction);
  • VK Community → any target action (instruction).

2. Go to setting up the ad group.

For the Demographics and Interests and Behaviour blocks, auto-selection of settings is enabled - the best settings will be selected for your campaign, which will be suggested by the system based on the analysis of similar campaigns.

If necessary, you can switch off auto-selection of settings and set demographics and interests manually.

You cannot use both auto-selection and your own demographics and interests settings at the same time. If you switch on the automatic selection of settings, the values you set manually will be reset.

For existing campaigns

You can apply automatic customisation to previously created campaigns.

If, according to our estimates, an ad could be more effective, a recommendation notification will appear on the dashboard - a grey light bulb icon next to the status of a campaign or ad group.

Click on the notification to see which settings can be improved and apply auto-tweak settings. You can select separately: demographics only or interests only.

Be careful: if you enable auto-selection, any settings you manually selected will be reset.

Features of the work

  • The tool is available only for campaigns:
    • with the objective Mobile application → target action - app install.
    • with the advertising objective VK Community → any target action.
  • The algorithm analyses and selects only the settings of gender, age and interests of the audience.
  • In the course of the campaign, the settings of gender, age and interests of the audience can be changed to get better results. Analyses take place every 2 hours.
  • Automatic targeting is available only if the system has enough information about similar campaigns.
  • The tool can be used both for new campaigns and for already created campaigns.
  • If you use automatic targeting for an already created campaign, the tool will remove the demographics and/or interest settings that you have previously specified.
