How to create a campaign
Step 1: Campaign setup
- To create a new campaign, in the “Campaigns” section, click “Create”.
- On the “Target actions” tab, select the “Community and profile” advertising object.
- Fill in the “Advertised object” field: select a group from the drop-down list or insert a link to it. For a community to appear in the list, you must be its administrator and log in to VK Ads under the same VK ID.
4. Set up an advertising campaign.
Targeting action. Defines the group of users to be targeted by the smart algorithm and sets the text on the button in the ad. If you select the target action “Promote Record”, there will be no button in the ad.
Campaign budget optimization will allocate the budget between your ads so that you get more targeted actions. An algorithm determines which ads perform better and allocates a larger share of the daily campaign budget to them. Learn more about budget optimization
Campaign bid strategy. Allows you to limit the maximum bid or minimize spend to achieve the best results within the specified budget. Learn more about the different strategies
Budget. The setting limits the amount that can be spent per day or for the entire duration of the campaign. Learn more about budget
Step 2: Customizing an ad group
One group can include one or several ads united by common settings — period of operation and schedule, targeting.
Specify run dates, budget and budget allocation. You will not be able to select the budget and budget allocation if you have already specified them at the step of creating an advertising campaign.
Set the necessary targeting: regions of display, gender and age of users, interests and behavior, user audiences. If necessary, set up UTM-tags.
In the “Placements” block you can choose the sites where your ads will be broadcast.
We recommend using “Automatic selection of placements” — this way your ads will be broadcast on all available sites and placements. You can disable this setting and select placements manually, but keep in mind that this may narrow your audience and affect your reach.
You can build an audience of users who reacted to your ad (liked, shared, watched a video) and show ads only to them. Learn more about creating such an audience
Step 3: Customize your ad
The steps to customize your ad will be different depending on which targeted action you choose.
Join community, Write to community
If you have selected the targeted action “Join community” or “Write to community”, you need to add logo, headline, description, text and creatives in the ad creation step. You can use text generation to create a description or title for the ad.
By default, the ad is created in the universal ad format. But you can choose additional formats. Click on the “Add format” button and specify what kind of images / videos you want:
Slide Carousel - a set of cards of several images (3 to 6), with text and a button. The cards can be flipped through.
Media files gallery - a collage or slider of photos and videos in a post, without text and button. Add files from the media library and define the display format: “Slider” or “Collage”. You can choose from 2 to 10 media files of different types.
Please note that you need administrator rights to promote your community in the “Collage” format.
You can also customize the display order. To do this, in the block with media files on the left, move them in the desired order. This order will be saved in the advertisement itself.
For the “Send message” target, you can additionally select the inscription on the button. To do this, expand the list in the “Button inscription” field. The button will lead to personal messages of the community.
In the “About” field, fill in the legal information if you are engaged in distance selling of goods.
The ad will be created in the format of a hidden advertisement with up to 2000 characters of text, which is not visible in the community.
Promotion of the post
If your target action is “Promote a post”, select the desired post from the community wall at the ad creation step. You can select the post from the list of recent posts or search for it by clicking the magnifying glass icon on the right above the list and entering a link to the post or a few words from the text.
An ad will be created as a copy of the selected post. Users will be able to like or repost the post, but they will not be able to leave a comment under it.
When you select a post, in the preview you will be able to see how the ad will look like.
When selling goods remotely, according to the law “On advertising” it is obligatory to specify the seller's data in the ad. In the case of a post, you can add this information in text on the advertising banner.
It is not possible to modify or upload additional attachments. If you need to do this, choose another targeted action or edit the post through the VKontakte community.
Check a few items before promoting the post:
- 1The post is not labeled as an advertisementMake sure that the post you want to promote does not contain an advertisement label (the “Advertisement by author” label or the token that is added in the settings when you create the post). Posts that are already marked as advertisements cannot be promoted — create or select another post to run an ad.
- 2The post complies with the Rules for Placing AdvertisementsAn ad may be rejected if the post contains emoji or text written in capital letters. If you are authorized in the VK Ads account using your VK ID, such posts are marked with a separate icon. When you select such a post, you will see a message that the post needs to be edited. If you are authorized in VK Ads in another way, posts will be available for promotion, but will be rejected during moderation. Edit the post before launching the promotion.
- 3The survey post is properly designedIf you promote a post containing a survey, make sure it has no more than 5 answer choices and 1 attachment (for example, a post with a survey and 1 picture or a survey and 1 track).
How to evaluate the result
